FLYING FOXES & BATS

What to do if you find a sick, injured or orphaned bat or flying fox?

  • DO NOT HANDLE THE BAT
  • call a wildlife carer as soon as possible
  • if a Flying Fox is on a fence, cover with a cloth to protect it from the sun and predators.
  • if dead on ground, using gloves, or a heavy cloth place in a box, then wash hands thoroughly in soapy water and call FAUNA

What to do if you find a sick, orphaned or injured possum?

  • wearing gloves, wrap animal in a cloth or towel and place in cardboard box
  • call a wildlife carer as soon as possible
  • if you find a DEAD possum please check to see if it is female, then check the pouch for young
  • if there is live young and it is fully furred please remove carefully and wrap in a warm cloth, If it is unfurred and still attached to the teat, DO NOT attempt to remove it, place the dead mother in a cardboard box and call FAUNA

KANGAROOS & WALLABIES

What to do if you find a sick, orphaned or injured Macropod?

  • call a wildlife carer as soon as possible
  • if you find a DEAD Kangaroo/Wallaby please check to see if it is female, then check the pouch for young
  • If there is live young and it is fully furred please remove carefully and wrap in a warm cloth, if it is unfurred and still attached to the teat, DO NOT attempt to remove it and call FAUNA

KOALAS

What to do if you find a sick, injured or orphaned Koala?

  • call a wildlife carer as soon as possible
  • DO NOT HANDLE, as Koalas have very sharp claws and teeth
  • place a box or basket over the Koala to prevent it from moving and call FAUNA
